Ewan and I managed a day-trip over to the West Coast today (thanks to all our guests staying for the whole weekend which meant I had NO rooms to do and we had NO check-ins!). In the middle of a busy summer season it was a welcome break!

What a day we had – I am almost ashamed to admit this but I have never been over to the West before! We drove from Inverness to Shieldaig, then up the Bealach Na Ba (pictured). A Bealach is a mountain pass and the Bealach Na Ba is made up of twisting hairpin bends, 2054ft from sea level in just 6 miles! From here we went to Applecross and had THE MOST wonderful lunch in The Applecross Inn – the seafood here is legendary. Coming back to Inverness we came across a herd of shaggy Highland Cows wandering along the road! This was an easy day trip from Inverness and the scenery is just magnificent. This, combined with the great lunch we had at Applecross means that it will definitely be a trip that we will do again! If you are coming to Inverness I urge you to take a day trip from Craigside Lodge and, in the words of The Pet Shop Boys, go West!!
