Wow - only April but what a beautiful day! I spent the afternoon walking on the Caledonian Canal towpath and managed to catch a glimpse of one of the Jacobite Cruises - arguably the best way to see Loch Ness.

The Caledonian Canal runs parallel to Gordon Terrace and you can often see the masts of the boats moving along the canal from Craigside Lodge. The canal is one of Britain's greatest waterways and, slicing through the Great Glen, it's 60 mile length spans coast to coast. The towpath can be accessed from many different points but my favourite is by walking through the Ness Islands (a group of islands in the middle of the River Ness) and joining the path at the Tomnihurich Swing Bridge. It takes only 20 minutes to walk to the canal from Craigside Lodge and if you are feeling energetic, you could walk up to Dochgarroch where you can see the Dochgarroch Lock in action.
